Pet Peeve
I must confess that I have a major pet peeve after all these years of taking public transport.Imagine this: It is 8am in the morning on a Monday. The peak hour crowd has occupied the bus stop as everyone waits anxiously for the feeder service bus. The bus has finally decided to grace us with its rare appearance as it crawls slowly and comes to a halt at the bus stop. Commuters rush to board the bus. You get pushed along and managed to get onto the vehicle. Alas, every single seat is occupied by a commuter who has boarded before you. More commuters continue to pour into the bus like water gushing out of a tap that has been turned on to its maximum flow. There is no sense of personal space, despite your hopeless battle to guard your self-proclaimed spot. The bus moves off and finally arrives at the interchange. You, half-dead from being squashed by fellow commuters and from standing throughout the journey, breathe a sigh of relief. Fresh air soon, you think to yourself. As you wait for the doors to open, horror unfolds. Like buried dead rising from their graves, SEATED commuters start rising from their seats. And then, these SEATED commuters, like zombies trying to takeover the earth, decide to enter the bloody aisles. The aisles are already filled to the brim with standing commuters (yourself included), and there is barely enough room to breathe. But nooo, these zombies don't need air! They don't understand personal space! They only know one thing: THEY HAVE TO GET TO THE DOOR BEFORE ANYONE ELSE!!! There are far too many zombies like these in Singapore. Seriously guys. You've been sitting AND SNOOZING comfortably in your sacred seat for the past 15 minutes! Can't you learn to be gracious and let the poor commuters who have been standing in the aisles for most of the journey leave before you do??? Argh! |
